Writing
Throughout the year we will be working on a variety of writing projects.
These writing projects will all have expectations, rubrics, and examples here.

Pre-Writing
We start our year off with a simply recording all our ideas in our Writer's Notebooks. This strategy allows students to get all of their ideas, dreams, favorite subjects, etc. on paper in a non-threatening, fun manner. Children often struggle with the idea of getting started on their writing, whether it be in or out of school, and need a structured way to "get going." Writer’s notebooks allow children and teens to take in the world around them and document their daily lives and provides an easy, informal way to start thinking about new topics and ideas. These notebooks are a great place to store favorite quotes, random facts, dreams, and ideas for the future. So, what are you waiting for? Get writing!
Writing Prompt of the Month
Every month we will be writing to a "Prompt of the Month". The students will be able to choose between an Informational, Opinion or Narrative writing prompt each month, with the end of the year seeing three of each genre. "Prompts of the Month" will help us build our writing stamina as well as practice the writing process; brainstorming, rough-drafting, self- and peer-editing and revising, and creating a final draft.
