Please check our Classroom Calendar, under the subheading "This Week in Fifth Grade" to keep up to date on upcoming events in our classroom and our school!
What a great week off!! I have heard all about your trips and all the exciting things you've all done over Spring Break. We started a new math unit this week; Order of Operations and the Coordinate Plane! It's so much fun! We are continuing our work on our Persuasive Letters and for a little extra writing, we are filling in our own Final Four Brackets and writing a Friendly Letter to our top pick team. We've even gotten letters back from the teams in the past, keep our fingers crossed!! How exciting! In reading, we are starting to learn about how to evaluate Author's Purpose, not only will this help our reading skills, but our writing skills as well. We are also focusing on different types of Figurative Language. Please check out our quiz on the Language Arts Page.
Looking forward to the rest of the school year! How exciting! One more week and it's Spring Break! I have already heard about so many people's plans for Spring Break and they all sound phenomenal; from traveling to Colorado and India! to relaxing and playing outdoors! They all sound great!
In this last week we have a lot of goals. We are hoping to finish up our balloon powered cars, but there is no rush! If we need to complete these after Spring Break that is fine. We are also creating google presentations about how our cars work based on our unit of force and motion. I am excited to see these cars go! I would also like to wrap up unit 5 in math! The kids are doing amazing in this unit! We have moved from long division to long division with decimal divisors and dividends, and they have done great. We also started our new writing unit recently; persuasive letters. We have brainstormed many ideas and started to narrow down our topics, so we will hopefully be starting these "for real" this week. We are also going to be working more on listening comprehension this week. Please feel free to listen to these, as they are posted on here, under Language Arts, Listening Comprehension. We are currently on unit 7, Figurative Language. It is also our last week of swimming in PhyEd! It has been a great unit that the kids have truly enjoyed! Wednesday is game day at the pool so please make sure the kids have their gear. We will practicing for our benefit concert this week. It is happening Thursday evening (March 6th) at 6:30 pm. They 4th, 5th, middle school and high schoolers will be performing to help raise awareness and donations for the following organizations: Monetary Donations ~ Door County United Wat Gently Used Clothing & Nonperishable Foods ~ Door County Clothe My People/Feed My People Pet Supplies & Food ~ Door County Humane Society We look forward to seeing you there!
